In what has become a familiar pattern under the coaching tenure of Deion Sanders, the Colorado Buffaloes are experiencing a busy day in the transfer portal. The spring transfer window opened on Tuesday, and already several players have made the decision to seek opportunities elsewhere.

One notable departure is Cormani McClain, a former five-star prospect and the top-ranked cornerback in the 2023 class according to 247Sports. McClain, who had been recruited by Sanders in 2023, announced on Tuesday his intention to enter the transfer portal. While he did not have a prominent role in the Buffaloes' lineup last season, his departure is expected to have implications on the program's perception moving forward.

Adding to their challenges, the Buffaloes have also suffered a significant loss in starting offensive lineman Savion Washington. Standing at 6-foot-8, Washington proved to be a valuable asset as he started 10 games at right tackle last season, despite some difficulties faced by the offensive line as a whole.

With Washington's departure, Colorado is now tasked with the daunting challenge of replacing all five starting offensive linemen from last season, who collectively accounted for 114 starts. The team did manage to bring in five offensive line transfers during the winter transfer window, but it is anticipated that Sanders and his staff will continue to actively search the transfer portal for additional depth to address this critical need.

The defensive side of the ball has also been affected by the transfer portal, as the Buffaloes bid farewell to key linemen Chazz Wallace and Devee Harris, who both started a handful of games and served as valuable reserves last season. Furthermore, Myles Slusher, a former Top247 safety who started in the 2023 season opener against TCU, is also leaving.

As the spring transfer window opens, Colorado finds itself grappling with multiple departures and the challenge of rebuilding several positions on both offense and defense. With Sanders entering his second year as head coach, it remains to be seen how these changes will impact the team's performance and future prospects.

The influx of transfers offers both opportunities and challenges for the Buffaloes, and it will be crucial for Sanders and his staff to capitalize on the transfer portal to bolster the team's depth and maintain competitiveness in the demanding landscape of college football.
