Collin Gosselin, former reality TV star, has revealed that his aspirations to serve in the Marines have been dashed due to his previous institutionalization. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Collin shared that his dream to serve his country has been put to an end, and this decision was not within his control.
Collin, known for his appearance on the popular show "Jon & Kate Plus 8," expressed disappointment as he confirmed, "I am not in the Marines anymore." He further explained that his discharge was not a personal choice but rather a consequence of his past institutionalization.
"I was discharged during my training, very close to graduating," Collin stated. "The paperwork was reviewed, and they found out about my previous institutionalization. This fact alone was enough to lead to my discharge."
Collin's journey began during the show's run, which aired on TLC from 2007 to 2009, and continued as "Kate Plus 8" until 2017, following his parents' divorce. During filming, Collin's behavior became problematic, leading to silent interviews and refusal to interact at times.
At the age of 12, Collin was allegedly diagnosed with a behavioral disorder and sent to the Fairmount Behavioral Health System, a psychiatric hospital located in Philadelphia, by his mother, Kate. According to Kate, she made this decision due to her inability to meet Collin's needs independently. Meanwhile, "Kate Plus 8" continued to air with the remaining seven children, while Jon, Collin's father, claimed to be unaware of Collin's whereabouts until his absence during lunch with the children.
Collin, now 18 years old, has accused his mother of institutionalizing him to protect her reputation. He shared with Entertainment Tonight, "I didn't know where I was going. I told all my family this... That was the most scared I've probably ever been in my life."
Despite being discharged from the Marines, Collin remains determined to appeal the decision, hoping to fulfill his dream of serving in the military. He expressed, "I have very few other wishes in life that would top being a United States Marine."
Collin has also shared plans to pursue higher education at Penn State, where he will major in finance, allowing him to stay close to his father and sister Hannah. He acknowledged that their separation would be challenging but expressed excitement for his individual path.
As for the possibility of returning to reality television, Collin mentioned there is a "good possibility" but not likely on a full-time basis.
