### Top College Football Teams Experience Major Shake-Up in Latest AP Top 25 Poll
In a tumultuous weekend for college football, Alabama and Mississippi have been ousted from the top 10 of The Associated Press Top 25 poll, while Miami and SMU have climbed up the ranks. Oregon maintains its position at No. 1 for the sixth consecutive week, with Ohio State, Texas, and Penn State holding steady right behind them. The changes begin at No. 5, with Notre Dame making a comeback after a nine-game winning streak capped by a victory over Army.
The SEC saw significant movement with Georgia and Tennessee each moving up two spots to No. 6 and No. 7, respectively. Miami achieved a three-position rise to No. 8, while SMU jumped four places to enter the top 10 at No. 9 for the first time since 1985. SMU has already secured a spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference title game and awaits the outcome of Miami’s upcoming game against Syracuse to finalize their opponent.
Indiana, previously ranked No. 5, dropped to No. 10 after a 38-15 defeat at the hands of Ohio State. The Buckeyes are poised to face Oregon in the Big Ten championship game should they defeat Michigan for the first time in four years this upcoming Saturday. The SEC's aspiration to secure four spots in the College Football Playoff took a hit, as Texas, Georgia, and Tennessee now carry the conference's hopes forward after Alabama lost to Oklahoma and Mississippi succumbed to Florida.
The most notable declines saw Alabama and Mississippi each fall six places to No. 13 and No. 15, respectively. Texas A&M also suffered a setback, dropping five spots to No. 20 after a four-overtime loss to Auburn. Nevertheless, Texas A&M can still play Georgia for the SEC championship if they overcome Texas this week.
The Big 12 witnessed a shake-up as well, with losses by BYU and Colorado leading to a four-way tie for first place. Arizona State, now ranked No. 14 and having handed BYU its second consecutive loss, claims the top spot in the conference. Iowa State, ranked No. 17, moved up five places with its impressive win at Utah. Should the four tied teams each finish with a 7-2 conference record, Iowa State and Arizona State will compete in the Big 12 championship game.
Boise State, ranked No. 11, leads the Group of Five teams with a one-position rise despite a challenging win over Wyoming. Tulane at No. 18, UNLV at No. 21, and Army at No. 25 follow suit. Oregon, poised for an unbeaten regular season for the first time since 2010, is the consensus No. 1 for the fourth straight week.
The Big Ten and SEC dominate the rankings with five and eight teams respectively, while the Big 12 and ACC also have a strong presence. The AAC and Mountain West each have two teams represented, with Independent Notre Dame ranking at No. 5. Missouri returned to the Top 25 at No. 24 following a decisive victory over Mississippi State, while Washington State’s four-week run in the rankings ended after a loss to Oregon State.
