Two Christian students, Grant Beth and Luke Polaske, faced mockery and heckling at a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The juniors attended the event to voice their opposition, shouting phrases like "Christ is king!" as Harris addressed the crowd on topics including abortion rights.
Beth and Polaske detailed their experience on "Fox & Friends Weekend," where they described feeling persecuted similarly to Jesus and his followers. Beth recounted being pushed by an elderly woman and enduring jeers and curses from the crowd. "In reflection of the event, Jesus was mocked. You know, his disciples were mocked, and that's OK," Beth said. "In reality, we did God's work, and we were there for the right reasons, and God is watching us in this moment."
As the students continued their protests, Harris interrupted her speech, responding with sarcasm and suggesting they were attending the wrong rally, to the crowd's applause. "You guys are at the wrong rally," Harris said. "I think you meant to go to the smaller one down the street." This moment quickly gained traction across social media platforms.
The encounter came during a speech where Harris touched upon critical themes of the 2024 campaign, including the economy and reproductive rights. She took a stance against former President Donald Trump and the Supreme Court justices he nominated, who were instrumental in overturning Roe v. Wade. Harris vowed to restore reproductive freedoms by signing a corresponding bill into law if passed by Congress.
Polaske further described their experience, mentioning how Harris gave him "an evil smirk" as they were being escorted out. He held up his cross toward Harris, asserting that she acknowledged him with the gesture. "She looked directly in the eye, kind of gave me an evil smirk," Polaske recounted.
Beth expressed concern about Harris's potential presidency, arguing that she would be antagonistic towards Christians. He also criticized her decision to skip the Al Smith Memorial Dinner, an event traditionally attended by presidential candidates from both parties, instead sending a prerecorded video.
Kamala Harris has a background of attending both Hindu temples and Baptist churches during her upbringing and has been associated with the Rev. Amos Brown's Third Baptist Church. Recently, she spoke at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church near Atlanta, Georgia, on her birthday.
Grant Beth and Luke Polaske are unwavering in their belief that they attended the rally for a divine purpose, despite the mockery they encountered.
