In an interview with German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg highlighted the importance of China's support for Russia in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. Stoltenberg expressed concern over China's contradictory stance, as it claims to maintain good relations with the West while simultaneously fueling the war in Europe.

Although there are no records of China directly supplying arms or ammunition to Russia, Stoltenberg noted a significant increase in the sale of machine parts, microelectronics, and other technologies that Moscow has been using to bolster its military capabilities against Ukraine. These so-called "dual-use" goods can have both civilian and military applications.

Stoltenberg emphasized that Ukraine has faced setbacks on the ground due to a lack of ammunition and weapons. However, he remains optimistic, stating that it is not too late for Ukraine to turn the tide in the conflict. To support Ukraine's defense efforts, he called on NATO countries to provide Kyiv with additional weapons and munitions, including air defense systems and long-range weaponry.

The NATO Secretary General's comments highlight the sensitivity surrounding China's relationship with Russia. While the two countries may claim to be "true friends," their partnership may simply be a marriage of convenience. China's support for Russia in the Ukraine war raises questions about its commitment to maintaining good relations with the West.

The extent of China's involvement in the conflict continues to be a subject of concern. With the sale of critical technologies used in the production of missiles, tanks, and aircraft for use against Ukraine, China's support plays a crucial role in the course of the war.

As the conflict in Ukraine intensifies, NATO hopes to mobilize support and resources to assist Ukraine in its defense efforts. The supply of weapons and munitions, particularly air defense systems and long-range weaponry, is seen as vital in helping Ukraine regain its stability and security.

The complexities of China's relationship with Russia and its simultaneous pursuit of good relations with the West raises important questions about its global role. As the conflict in Ukraine continues, the impact of China's support for Russia will be closely monitored by international observers, as it could have far-reaching implications for the outcome of the war.
