Celebrity chef Justin Sutherland, known for his appearance on season 16 of "Top Chef," has been arrested and charged with one felony count of threats of violence with reckless disregard. The charges stem from an alleged domestic violence incident that occurred outside a residence in Minnesota on June 28.

According to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital, police responded to a 911 call reporting a man holding a woman at gunpoint. Upon arriving at the scene around 8 p.m., officers found Sutherland leaving the address. When instructed to turn around and place his hands behind his head, Sutherland allegedly shouted expletives and expressed hostility towards the police.

The girlfriend, identified as "SDL" in the court documents, informed the authorities that the couple had initially argued about a music festival they were no longer going to attend. She stated that during the confrontation, Sutherland placed his hands around her neck and applied pressure while threatening her with death. The alleged strangulation lasted for approximately five to six seconds.

In addition to the strangulation incident, SDL claimed that Sutherland took her phone and damaged it. She sought refuge at her neighbor's house, but Sutherland reportedly followed her, brandishing a black handgun and warning her not to return. He further pointed the gun at her before striking her in the chest with it.

Sutherland issued a statement apologizing for the situation, though he maintained his innocence. He expressed remorse for the distress caused to those around him and acknowledged the need for professional help and personal changes. Asserting his innocence, Sutherland stated his intention to use the judicial system to prove it.

Sutherland's attorney, John Daly, expressed confidence in the truth emerging during the court process. The celebrity chef was released on his own recognizance without bail. However, he voluntarily decided to enter a treatment center as he seeks to make amends and seek help.

As the case unfolds, Sutherland's fans, family, and friends await the truth to come forward. The seriousness of the charges against the celebrity chef highlight the importance of addressing domestic violence offenses and seeking appropriate support and treatment for those involved in such incidents.
