As the Dallas Cowboys returned to Oxnard for their 2024 training camp, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb's absence became a topic of discussion. Having started his holdout in June by missing mandatory minicamp, Lamb's contract negotiations with the organization have spilled into late July.

Lamb, 25, is coming off a remarkable season where he showcased his skills as not only the best receiver in Dallas but arguably the best in the entire NFL. With an impressive record-breaking performance, Lamb accumulated 1,749 receiving yards, 12 receiving touchdowns, and two rushing touchdowns along with six rushing first downs.

Given his exceptional production, it is expected that Lamb will become one of the highest-paid receivers in the league, alongside Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings, who secured a multi-year deal earlier this summer.

Although the Cowboys have dealt with significant holdouts in the past, such as All-Pro right guard Zack Martin, who resolved his contract issue just days into training camp, Lamb's situation remains unresolved. The Collective Bargaining Agreement offers the Cowboys the option to forgive Lamb's fines for his absence if they choose to exercise that right.

Currently, Lamb is still on his rookie deal through the fifth-year option triggered in 2023. Until Lamb returns to the practice field, other receivers like Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks, KaVontae Turpin, and rookie sixth-round pick Ryan Flournoy will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and compete for the position behind Lamb and Brandin Cooks.

In April, Lamb made it clear that he intends to be with the Cowboys in 2024, indicating that the holdout and fines are simply part of the business. "Winning - I'm looking forward to winning and being out there with my guys, and making another run at this thing," he stated confidently.

As negotiations continue, fans eagerly await Lamb's return to the field, as he and quarterback Dak Prescott have been working together extensively this offseason. The talented receiver's presence will undoubtedly be a key factor in the Cowboys' pursuit of another successful season.
