In the aftermath of two cyberattacks against CDK Global in June, car dealerships that were hamstrung by outages may finally be able to use their systems again this week. CDK Global aims to restore dealer connections by July 4th, enabling them to access the essential Dealer Management System (DMS), according to a statement by Lisa Finney, a CDK Global spokesperson.
The phased restoration process is currently underway, with the company rapidly bringing dealers back online on the DMS, as stated by Finney. She anticipates that all dealer connections will be live by late Wednesday, July 3rd, or early morning Thursday, July 4th. Furthermore, CDK Global has successfully restored its Customer Care channels, allowing customers to seek assistance via phone calls, chat, or by submitting eCases.
CDK Global, a software provider for nearly 15,000 car dealerships, proactively shut down its systems in response to the cyberattacks that occurred on June 19th and June 20th. As a consequence, some dealerships had to resort to traditional methods such as pen and paper for activities like tracking car sales and scheduling maintenance.
According to BleepingComputer, the cyberattacks on CDK Global were attributed to the BlackSuit ransomware group. The company has referred to the incident as a "cyber ransom event." In response, CDK Global took immediate action by enforcing system shutdowns and implementing stringent security measures.
CDK Global has already successfully reinstated a few select groups of dealers on its DMS. One notable mention is a large publicly traded dealer group, along with two smaller dealer groups, as reported in a statement provided to CBS MoneyWatch.
Car dealerships across the nation eagerly await the complete restoration of their digital services by CDK Global. The resumption of the DMS functionality on July 4th will allow dealers to seamlessly track sales, schedule maintenance, and improve overall customer service. The recent cyberattacks serve as a strong reminder of the need for robust cybersecurity measures in today's interconnected business landscape.
