**BYU Continues Undefeated Streak with Commanding Win Over UCF**
The Brigham Young University Cougars traveled to Orlando determined to maintain their unbeaten record and did just that with a robust performance against the University of Central Florida Knights. The Cougars secured a dominant 34-18 victory, showcasing a well-coordinated team effort on both sides of the ball.
The game kicked off with BYU's offense setting the tone early. Quarterback Jake Retzlaff led the charge, completing 12 of 19 passes for 200 yards and scoring a touchdown, along with a 16-yard rushing score. The Cougars struck first with kicker Will Ferrin executing a 41-yard field goal, followed by a creative fake field goal play that saw Ferrin running for a first down. This sparked their offensive rhythm leading to a 15-yard touchdown run by LJ Martin.
Retzlaff continued to shine, connecting with tight end Mata'ava Ta'ase for a 1-yard touchdown, marking Ta'ase’s third end zone appearance of the season. Retzlaff's final first-half act was a stunning 62-yard touchdown pass to Chase Roberts, BYU's longest play from scrimmage this season, pushing the halftime lead to 24-10.
The Cougars' defense also made significant contributions. Isaiah Glasker grabbed the first of two total interceptions for BYU, while special teams player Faletua Satuala recorded his career-first interception, making him the 11th Cougar to do so this season. Blake Mangelson added to the defensive stats with a crucial sack, helping to minimize UCF's offensive threats.
Although UCF's RJ Harvey managed to score twice, reducing the deficit each time, a stalwart BYU defense forced crucial turnovers and limited UCF's scoring opportunities. Ferrin added another field goal in the second half, further solidifying BYU's lead.
By the end of the game, BYU had scored on six out of their seven offensive drives, amassing a total of 320 yards before halftime and dominating time of possession. The victory boosts the Cougars' morale as they continue their impressive season.
The Knights will need to reassess as they work on recovering for their next match, while BYU will look to build on this momentum to extend their undefeated streak even further.
