In an update from Boston, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney expressed optimism about reaching a contract agreement with restricted free agent goalie Jeremy Swayman before the start of the season. Swayman has opted to wait until a new contract is settled before reporting to the team.

Sweeney acknowledged his disappointment in not being able to finalize the contract as a priority but remains committed to negotiating a deal. The Bruins' season opener is scheduled for October 8 against the Florida Panthers, and if Swayman is not signed by December 1, he will be ineligible to play for the entire season.

Swayman, vying for the starting goalie role, had an impressive season alongside Linus Ullmark, helping the Bruins win the William M. Jennings Trophy for allowing the fewest goals in the NHL. The team also set records for wins and points during that season. In the playoffs, Swayman showcased his talent, starting 12 consecutive games and posting impressive statistics.

While Swayman's absence may impact the team's preparation, Sweeney remains hopeful of finding common ground and has a strong belief that the young goaltender will be signed before the December deadline. The Bruins are no strangers to restricted free agents delaying their arrivals at training camp, with players like Charlie McAvoy, Brandon Carlo, and David Pastrnak having experienced similar situations in the past.

Contrary to recent reports, Sweeney addressed the claims of a finalized contract, clarifying that they are "100 percent inaccurate." He emphasized his ongoing communication with Swayman's camp and the dedication to reaching a resolution.

In the meantime, the Bruins will rely on Joonas Korpisalo and prospect Brandon Bussi as their top two goaltenders. Korpisalo, acquired in a trade, had a mixed performance last season, while Bussi showed promise in the American Hockey League.

As the Bruins focus on training camp and preparing for the upcoming season, head coach Jim Montgomery reassured that there is currently no concern about Swayman's absence impacting other players. The team is taking things day by day and focusing on their immediate tasks.

Sweeney also provided an update on captain Brad Marchand, who underwent multiple surgeries during the summer. Although Marchand won't be part of the main group during Thursday's session, he is expected to be ready for the season opener, pending any setbacks.

With negotiations ongoing and optimism surrounding Swayman's contract settlement, all parties remain hopeful for a positive outcome. The Bruins and their fans eagerly await the return of Swayman to strengthen their goaltending prowess in their pursuit of success in the upcoming season.
