Left-hander DL Hall, acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers in the Corbin Burnes trade, has faced considerable challenges since joining the team's starting rotation. Despite being predominantly used as a reliever during his time with the Baltimore Orioles, the Brewers made it clear that Hall would be given an opportunity as a starter. However, in his first four starts, Hall has struggled, posting a 7.71 ERA and struggling with his control, reflected in a high walk rate of 11.9% and a relatively low strikeout rate of 15.4%.

Hall's struggles have led Brewers' manager Pat Murphy to consider a potential shift in the team's plans. Murphy indicated after Hall's most recent start that adjustments need to be made for him to remain in the rotation. He expressed concerns about Hall's inability to pitch beyond the fourth inning in three out of his four starts, stating that the team cannot continue with such short outings from him.

Currently, Hall is part of the Brewers' starting rotation, which includes Freddy Peralta, Wade Miley, Colin Rea, and Joe Ross. If Hall doesn't improve, the team may explore alternatives, with left-hander Aaron Ashby being one potential candidate to transition into the rotation. However, Ashby has also struggled this season, both in the majors and minors, casting some doubt on his readiness for a prominent role.

Another option the Brewers could consider is waiting for right-hander Jakob Junis to recover from a shoulder impingement that has kept him on the injured list for the past two weeks. Junis' return would provide the team with more flexibility before making a decision on Hall's future role.

In other news, Chicago Cubs left fielder Ian Happ was removed from Friday's game against the Miami Marlins due to left hamstring tightness. Manager Craig Counsell described the move as precautionary, but Happ was absent from both games in the team's doubleheader on Saturday. While it is unclear if Happ will require a stint on the injured list, the Cubs are exercising caution given his previous mild strain of the same hamstring during Spring Training.

As Happ recovers, Alexander Canario filled in for him in left field, while Mike Tauchman and Patrick Wisdom have been handling right field duties in the absence of Seiya Suzuki, who is dealing with an oblique injury.

Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Reds have faced setbacks with right-hander Ian Gibaut, who has yet to play this season due to discomfort in his right forearm. The team recently announced that Gibaut had been returned from a rehab assignment due to renewed discomfort in the area. However, manager David Bell remains hopeful that Gibaut could resume his rehab assignment later this week.

Gibaut's absence has forced the Reds to rely on Fernando Cruz and Emilio Pagan as setup men for closer Alexis Diaz. The team will be eager to have Gibaut back in action, as he demonstrated his effectiveness with a strong 3.33 ERA in 2023, pitching 75 2/3 innings.

While both the Brewers and Reds face obstacles with their pitching staff, they will continue to explore the best possible solutions to strengthen their respective rotations and bullpens.
