In a shocking turn of events, a body has been discovered after a carjacking and kidnapping incident that took place in Seminole County, Florida. Seminole County Sheriff Dennis M. Lemma confirmed the finding during a news conference held on Friday.
The body was found inside a burning vehicle at a construction site near Boggy Creek Road in Osceola County. Although lab tests are still pending, authorities believe the body to be that of 31-year-old Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvias, a woman originally from the Dominican Republic.
According to eyewitnesses, a carjacking occurred on Thursday evening around 6 p.m. at the intersection of East Lake Drive and Tuskawilla Road in Winter Springs. A witness managed to capture the incident on cellphone video. The footage shows an armed man, dressed in a black hoodie and wearing a Halloween mask, pointing a weapon at Guerrero De Aguasvias, who was driving a white Dodge Durango. The suspect then boarded the backseat of the vehicle.
Shortly after, a green Acura sedan with an obscured license plate, suspected to be driven by the attacker, began following the Durango as they left the scene. The Durango, notably displaying a "for sale" sign and a phone number on its back window, became the target of the perpetrators.
It was revealed during the news conference that Guerrero De Aguasvias had called her husband prior to the kidnapping, expressing her concerns over being followed and having her vehicle rammed by another car. However, neither the husband nor the victim contacted emergency services.
Authorities believe that the carjacker forced Guerrero De Aguasvias to drive to the construction site in Osceola County, where witnesses called 911 after hearing gunshots and seeing smoke emanating from the area. Law enforcement arrived at the scene to find a burnt vehicle with a body inside. Detectives suspect that this vehicle and body belong to Guerrero De Aguasvias.
Further investigation at the crime scene revealed twelve shell casings and a single projectile, indicating that gunfire had taken place.
Sheriff Lemma stated that detectives have been in contact with Guerrero De Aguasvias's husband, who revealed that she had traveled from South Florida to visit relatives in Seminole County. However, authorities have been unable to locate any blood relatives in the area.
While the motive for this heinous act remains unclear, detectives firmly believe that Guerrero De Aguasvias was specifically targeted. Lemma emphasized that this was not a random act and that the assailants appeared to have knowledge of their victim's identity.
As the investigation unfolds, the victim's husband is said to be fully cooperative with law enforcement. Both him and Guerrero De Aguasvias do not have any criminal history in the United States.
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office urges anyone with information about this tragic incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
