In a recent Fox News poll, President Joe Biden has surpassed former President Donald Trump by two percentage points among rural voters. The survey, which has faced criticism from Trump and his supporters, puts Biden at 50 percent and Trump at 48 percent.

Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk expressed his skepticism about the poll's findings, calling it a "complete outlier" and stating that there is no way Biden could be winning rural voters. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene echoed these sentiments, asserting that the poll was wrong and that her district in rural northwest Georgia strongly supports Trump.

In a scathing critique, Trump denounced the entire poll on his new social media platform, Truth Social, labeling it as "trash" and accusing Fox News of using a biased sample of voters favoring Democrats. Despite these allegations, Fox News referenced its 2020 data, which showed Trump generally performing well with rural voters, often enjoying a 17-point lead.

Pollster Lee Carter appeared on Fox News' Fox & Friends and characterized the poll as a temporary anomaly, likening it to shifts observed in polls during the 2016 election. Carter also emphasized that Trump was never consistently ahead in the polls during either the 2016 or 2020 elections.

Newsweek reached out to Fox News for a response to the doubts cast on the poll, but the network has not provided any comment thus far. The survey, conducted among 1,095 registered voters, marks the first time since October that Biden has edged ahead of Trump among rural voters.

The poll attributes Biden's lead to changing perceptions of the improving economy, with a record 31 percent of respondents approving of his handling of inflation and 41 percent expressing satisfaction with the overall economic situation.

In response, Trump rejected the poll's legitimacy and highlighted his lead in other polls, particularly in key battleground states such as Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Polls conducted by Emerson College confirm Trump's lead in these states.

As the 2024 presidential race begins to take shape, the competition for rural voters remains intense. The Fox News poll's findings have ignited controversy, raising questions about the accuracy and representativeness of polling data. With both Biden and Trump actively voicing their opinions on social media platforms, the battle for public opinion continues to unfold as voters assess the state of the nation and their preferred candidates.
