Bethesda's highly anticipated sci-fi exploration game, Starfield, is set to receive more than just one major DLC, according to Bethesda's Director, Todd Howard. In an interview with YouTuber MrMattyPlays, Howard confirmed that the first expansion, titled Shattered Space, is not the end of the line for additional content. The expansion has been in development since August-September of last year, following the completion of the base game.
Comparing the scope of the expansion to previous DLCs such as Fallout 4's Far Harbor and The Elder Scrolls, Howard stated that Shattered Space would offer players a new kind of alien world to explore. The expansion primarily takes place in a single city on a single planet, allowing the developers to build a landscape similar to their traditional approach in previous games.
Howard mentioned that Shattered Space is part of Bethesda's lineup of "annual story expansions," indicating that they plan to release additional content for Starfield for a long time. This means that players can expect at least one more major expansion following Shattered Space. Howard confirmed that the team is already planning for the next DLC, ensuring a continuous stream of new experiences for Starfield players.
However, it is important to note that the DLCs will not answer every question about the Starfield universe. Instead, Bethesda aims to focus on enhancing the overall experience and adding new elements to the game. Howard emphasized that the team's approach will be centered around the question, "What do we want to add to the game as far as an experience or a tone or those kinds of things?"
Shattered Space, the first expansion, will intertwine players in the secretive world of House Va'Ruun and its city of Dazra. The storyline will revolve around a cosmic threat, and players can expect new gear and other exciting features. More details about the expansion will be unveiled later this year, with fans getting a sneak peek during Summer Game Fest.
With the commitment to deliver annual DLC content, Bethesda is striving to ensure that Starfield continues to captivate players with new adventures and mysteries, enhancing the game's longevity and keeping fans engaged for years to come.
