### Authorities Arrest Far-Right Group Plotting Nazi-Inspired Coup in Germany
In a significant security sweep across three countries, German police have detained eight individuals accused of being members of a far-right extremist group that sought to stage a coup inspired by Nazi ideology. The group, known as the Saechsische Separatisten or "Saxony Separatists," was reportedly preparing for what it called "Day X," a day they believed would mark the collapse of the German government and society.
According to prosecutors, the group was undergoing military training in anticipation of this event, with plans to take control of regions in eastern Germany and establish an authoritarian far-right regime. Extensive coordinated efforts saw over 450 officers conducting searches and making arrests in Germany, Austria, and Poland to dismantle the group. The group's vision included forming a government based on National Socialism, the totalitarian ideology linked to Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Party.
The eight suspects have been identified by prosecutors as Kurt H, Karl K, Kevin M, Hans-Georg P, Kevin R, Jörg S, Jörn S, and Norman T. Seven were arrested in Germany, while Jörg S, the suspected leader, was apprehended in Poland. Additional raids took place in Vienna and the Krems-Land District of Austria.
Prosecutors assert that the Saxony Separatists, which was formed in 2020 and comprises 15 to 20 members, harbors "racist, anti-Semitic, and partially apocalyptic ideas." The organization was convinced of Germany's imminent downfall, anticipating societal and governmental collapse on "Day X." Their subsequent plan involved taking control through urban warfare and enacting "ethnic cleansing" in captured areas to remove "unwanted groups of people." Members, including the arrested individuals, had engaged repeatedly in paramilitary training.
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser commended the security forces for dismantling "another suspected terrorist group of militant right-wing extremists." This arrest comes in the wake of another alleged coup plot in 2022, orchestrated by the Reichsbuerger movement, which had its own "Day X" plan involving the arrest of MPs and the establishment of a new head of state.
On the upcoming days, suspected members of the Saxony Separatists are scheduled to appear before a judge. The judge will read out their arrest warrants and determine the conditions of their pre-trial detention.
