**Kenneth Chesebro Suspended from Law Practice in New York Over Fake Electors Scheme**
Kenneth Chesebro, an attorney central to the plan of deploying false slates of pro-Trump electors to overturn the 2020 election results, has been suspended from practicing law in New York. The decision, made by a state appellate court on Thursday, bars Chesebro indefinitely.
Chesebro, 63, had already faced significant legal troubles, having pleaded guilty to a felony conspiracy charge in Georgia. The conspiracy involved presenting alternate slates of electors in states narrowly won by President Joseph R. Biden Jr., with the intention of disrupting the certification of the Electoral College results on January 6, 2021.
The scheme hinged on Vice President Mike Pence either counting these false slates for Donald Trump or using the existence of rival slates to delay the certification process. However, Pence did not comply, which contributed to the eruption of a pro-Trump mob at the Capitol.
Legal ethics groups had previously filed complaints against Chesebro with New York's attorney grievance committee, accusing him of attempting to subvert democratic processes by promoting a misleading interpretation of the law. The Supreme Court of New York reviewed these complaints and, focusing on his felony conviction, decided that his actions were grave enough to merit disbarment.
Kenneth Chesebro joins a list of lawyers facing professional consequences for efforts to aid Trump in overturning the election results. Among them, Rudolph W. Giuliani, former mayor of New York, has also been barred from practicing law in both New York and Washington, D.C.
Requests for comment from Chesebro's legal representatives have thus far gone unanswered.
