### Canadian Authorities Arrest Three in Connection to Attack on Brampton Hindu Temple
In a significant development, the Peel Regional Police in Ottawa, Canada, made three arrests following a violent incident at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton. The individuals were detained for criminal activities associated with a protest against pro-Khalistani elements who allegedly attacked the temple while devotees were inside. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly condemned the attack, urging the Canadian government led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law.
On Monday, November 4, 2024, Prime Minister Modi expressed his disapproval on social media platform X, denouncing both the temple attack and the attempts to intimidate Indian diplomats. "Such acts of violence will never weaken India's resolve. We expect the Canadian government to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law," Modi stated.
The organized protests, which were initiated by the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA), aimed to show solidarity and protest against what they termed "anti-Hindu hatred" and "Khalistani intimidation". These protests took place at the Laxmi Narayan Temple and the Brampton Temple in Surrey.
In a detailed statement, the Peel Regional Police revealed that demonstrations had shifted from the Brampton temple to multiple locations in Mississauga, including the Westwood Mall area and later to the vicinity of Airport Road and Derry Road. During these events, one police officer was reported to have sustained minor injuries.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in India also released a statement urging the Canadian government to prosecute those responsible for such acts of violence and to ensure the protection of all places of worship. MEA spokesperson Randir Jaiswal emphasized the deep concern over the safety of Indian nationals in Canada and the uninterrupted outreach efforts of Consular officers.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau labeled the violence as "unacceptable" and appreciated the swift response of the Peel Regional Police. "Every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely," he remarked, reinforcing the nation's commitment to protecting religious freedom and community safety.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, with active efforts from the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau and the 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Peel Regional Police.
