TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Police Department, alongside Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters, announced on Monday the arrest of three alleged gang members in connection to the shooting death of Jacksonville rapper Foolio, whose real name is Charles Jones II.
Foolio tragically lost his life in the early morning hours of June 23 in the parking lot of a hotel in Tampa. The police received a 911 call reporting the shooting at around 4:40 a.m., which also left three other individuals injured.
Foolio had been celebrating his 26th birthday in Tampa, having rented an Airbnb initially before moving to a hotel due to overcrowding. Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw revealed that the suspects were captured on security footage trailing Foolio from place to place after he shared his location on social media.
According to Bercaw, the shooters staged themselves across the street from the Holiday Inn, where Foolio was followed, and at 4:38 a.m., the three armed individuals exited a vehicle, approached the hotel parking lot, and fatally shot the rapper. While Foolio tragically lost his life, three others who were present were injured but survived.
The arrests were made by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, with Sean Gathright, 18, Alicia Andrews, 21, and Isaiah Chance Jr., 21, being charged with first-degree murder. Warrants have been issued for Davion Murphy, 27, and Rashad Murphy, 30, who will also face charges related to first-degree murder.
Bercaw revealed that the armed shooters were affiliated with the "ATK" and "1200" gangs, described as rivals to Foolio's "6 block" gang. It was believed that the ATK and 1200 gangs collaborated in the planning and execution of Foolio's murder.
Hillsborough County State Attorney Suzy Lopez emphasized the seriousness of the crime, stating that the defendants could face life imprisonment, even if they were not directly involved in the shooting. Lopez also declared an end to the ongoing feud between the gangs involved.
Regarding inquiries about the involvement of Jacksonville rapper Yungeen Ace, allegedly associated with the ATK gang, Sheriff Waters clarified that there is no ongoing investigation into him at this time, but ensured that his movements in Jacksonville are being monitored by law enforcement.
