**Two Boys Arrested for Assaulting Former NY Governor Paterson and Stepson on Upper East Side**

Two boys aged 12 and 13 have been apprehended and charged in connection with last week's street attack on former New York Governor David Paterson and his 20-year-old stepson in Manhattan's Upper East Side, according to authorities. Both Paterson and his stepson required hospitalization due to injuries sustained during the incident.

The New York Police Department reported that the young suspects turned themselves in at a police precinct around 8 p.m. on Saturday, accompanied by their parents. A third child, initially sought in the attack, also surrendered but was released after officers confirmed his non-involvement.

The 12-year-old has been charged with second-degree gang assault, while the 13-year-old faces a charge of third-degree gang assault. Sean Darcy, a spokesperson for Paterson, told WABC that the family is relieved the suspects turned themselves in, expressing hope that the young people involved will learn from this unfortunate incident.

The altercation occurred around 8:35 p.m. last Friday near the intersection of 2nd Avenue and 96th Street. The NYPD revealed that the confrontation began as a verbal dispute between the suspects and the former governor, 70, and his stepson.

Despite initial reports indicating up to five potential attackers, authorities have now stated that those initially detained had a prior interaction with Paterson's stepson. The suspects reportedly struck the victims in the face and body before fleeing the scene on foot.

Paterson and his stepson managed to fend off the attackers and were later transported to the hospital in stable condition. Having since been released, they have resumed their recovery at home.

David Paterson served as the governor of New York from 2008 to 2010, making history as the state's first African American governor and the nation's first legally blind governor. The investigation into the assault remains ongoing, and more arrests may follow as police continue to piece together the events.
