Suspect Arrested in Connection with Deadly Carjacking, One Still at Large
In a significant breakthrough, authorities have arrested one person of interest and are actively searching for another in connection with the deadly armed carjacking that occurred in Florida, resulting in the tragic death of Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvivas. The Seminole County Sheriff's Office announced that 28-year-old Jordanish Torres-Garcia was taken into custody on Friday afternoon by U.S. Marshals Services on an unrelated case.
Investigators discovered a crucial link between Torres-Garcia and a Green Acura believed to be involved in the carjacking. They observed that Torres-Garcia's Facebook profile picture depicted him wearing the same outfit as one of the suspects seen in the video footage of the incident.
The carjacking occurred on April 11 at a busy intersection in Winter Springs. Eyewitnesses captured video footage showing a masked individual in a black hoodie approaching the driver's side of Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvivas' white 2017 Dodge Durango, brandishing a weapon and subsequently entering the backseat. The suspects' vehicle, the green Acura, closely followed the Durango as they made a U-turn.
Tragically, investigators believe that Aguasvivas' body was discovered inside a burned SUV in Osceola County shortly after the carjacking took place.
As the homicide investigation unfolded, authorities uncovered a potential connection between Aguasvivas and Giovany Joel Crespo Hernandez, a 27-year-old man. Sheriff Dennis Lemma disclosed that Aguasvivas' brother, Luis Fernando Abreu, discovered Hernandez through an iCloud account, which indicated that Hernandez may have been the last person she spoke to on the phone before her demise. Abreu then engaged Hernandez in a Facetime call, took a screenshot of his face, and provided the image to investigators. A comparison with Hernandez's 2019 mugshot revealed a remarkable 98.6% match, according to Lemma.
Authorities subsequently obtained a search warrant for the Casselberry residence where Hernandez resided with his girlfriend, 27-year-old Monicsabel Romero Soto. During the execution of the search warrant, investigators discovered trafficking amounts of Fentanyl, a significant sum of money, and a firearm. It is important to note that the firearm is not believed to be connected to the carjacking.
In a surprising turn of events, Soto was also found to have accepted a controlled delivery of three kilos of cocaine facilitated by Homeland Security Investigations during the search warrant execution. Consequently, she was arrested in Osceola County.
As the investigation continues, Hernandez remains at large with an active warrant for fentanyl trafficking. Authorities are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward.
