In the wake of recent anti-Israel protests at Columbia University, UC Berkeley, and Yale, activist groups at three new universities are gearing up to join the resistance movement. The University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Texas at Austin, and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland have all announced plans to hold anti-Israel protests on Wednesday, April 24, according to reports from Fox News.

Pro-Palestinian factions at UCLA, the University of Texas at Austin, and Johns Hopkins University have taken to social media to express their intention to stand in solidarity against Israel. The Hopkins Justice Collective posted a call to action urging members to support "our brothers and sisters in Gaza" and students across the country advocating for divestment from Israel. The post emphasized the importance of bringing signs, posters, and energy to the protests.

Similar protests have already taken place at Columbia University and Yale, with significant turnouts and demonstrations of solidarity. A string of universities, including the University of Maryland - College Park, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, have also witnessed anti-Israel protests condemning the ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza. Many protesters are demanding an end to the violence that has resulted in numerous civilian Palestinian deaths.

Students for Justice in Palestine at UCLA expressed disappointment in their university's prioritization of profit and reputation over the well-being of Palestinians. They called for unity among students, faculty, and staff to bring about justice and liberation for Palestinians on campus, following in the footsteps of other student activist groups.

In Austin, Texas, the Palestinian Solidarity Committee is urging students to stage a walkout on April 24 and "occupy the South Lawn" to demand divestment from what they refer to as "death." They draw inspiration from similar protests across the nation, including Columbia University, Rutgers-New Brunswick, and Yale.

Interestingly, these new demonstrations are part of a larger wave of anti-Israel protests sweeping across the United States. Notably, all of the top five U.S. universities, including Princeton, MIT, Harvard, Stanford, and Yale, have faced active protests in recent days. According to the U.S. News and World Report's 2024 Best National University Rankings, at least half of the top 50 U.S. universities have experienced anti-Israel demonstrations within the past week. Although such protests have occurred intermittently since the 2023 Hamas-led terror attack on Israel, the events at Columbia University on April 17, 2024, appear to have reignited the wave of protest actions across the country.

As the anti-Israel movement gains momentum, universities in California, Texas, and Maryland are now bracing themselves for potential disruptions on their campuses. It remains to be seen how these institutions will respond to the growing demands for solidarity and divestment from the pro-Palestinian activists.
