Annual Mifflin Street Block Party in Madison Sees Multiple Incidents and Arrests

Thousands of people gathered for the annual Mifflin Street Block Party in Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday, attracting a crowd of over 10,000 attendees. However, the festivities were marred by a series of incidents that led to arrests and police interventions.

According to the Madison Police, more than 80 individuals were arrested for minor alcohol-related offenses during the event. Out of these, six were booked into the Dane County Jail. Police have indicated that additional citations may be issued, with final numbers set to be released next week. To ensure the safety and security of the attendees, over 150 officers were deployed at the block party.

At approximately 2:35 p.m., the Madison Police received a call to assist the Madison Fire department after a front porch at 527 W. Mifflin Street partially collapsed. The number of people present on the porch at the time remains unknown. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the property was cordoned off to ensure the safety of those in the area.

Shortly after, around 2:40 p.m., officers were required to clear the backyards of residences in the 500 block of Mifflin Street when a car was flipped over. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident, although another car in the vicinity sustained damage.

Unfortunately, one police officer suffered minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle while on duty. The officer, who was walking at the time, remained alert and was taken to the hospital by emergency medical services. The extent of her injuries has not been disclosed at this time.

The incidents at the Mifflin Street Block Party serve as a reminder of the challenges that can arise during large-scale events. The Madison Police will continue to investigate these occurrences and work towards ensuring the safety of future gatherings.
