In a report obtained by The Dallas Morning News, new details have emerged regarding an alleged assault at a downtown Dallas nightclub, in which the police suspect Rashee Rice, a player for the Kansas City Chiefs. The offense report, obtained through a public records request, reveals that the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday at the Lit Lounge & Feu Nightclub in the 600 block of North Harwood Street.
According to the report, a photographer attended an after-hours party at the nightclub around 1:30 a.m. However, he left shortly thereafter. Around 1:55 a.m., the alleged suspect, who has been identified as Rice by law enforcement officials, messaged the photographer on Instagram and requested him to return to the nightclub.
The report further states that when the photographer arrived back at the venue, he was directed by members of the suspect's entourage to locate the suspect through Instagram messages on his phone. Details regarding the content of these messages were not provided in the report. As the photographer looked down at the suspect's phone, he was allegedly punched on the left side of his face by the suspect.
The photographer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Law enforcement officials confirmed that he had visible swelling on one side of his face. The suspect's identity was redacted in the report, but the description outlined in the document matches Rice, including his age, height, and weight.
Rice's attorney, state Sen. Royce West, declined to comment on the allegations. Meanwhile, doubts have been raised on social media about the authenticity of the narrative, with two individuals with knowledge of the incident telling The Dallas Morning News that a verbal altercation occurred at the nightclub but without any physical contact.
In addition to the assault allegation, Rice is also suspected to be one of the drivers involved in a multi-vehicle crash that took place on March 30 in Dallas. According to an arrest-warrant affidavit, Rice was allegedly driving at a speed of 119 mph, while SMU football player Theodore "Teddy" Knox was driving at 116 mph just moments before the incident in the 6600 block of North Central Expressway. Both Rice and Knox face charges of aggravated assault, collision involving serious bodily injury, and collision involving injury.
Rice and four other individuals were captured on video leaving the scene of the crash without stopping to offer medical assistance or provide their information, as required by law. Rice and Knox turned themselves in to authorities less than two weeks after the crash and posted bond shortly after.
The investigation into the alleged assault at the Dallas nightclub is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
