New York police are currently on the hunt for a man they believe assaulted Emmy-winning actor Steve Buscemi in Manhattan last week. The alleged assault left the renowned actor's left eye bloodied and bruised, according to sources from The Times.
The suspect has been identified as 50-year-old Clifton Williams, who is now being sought by law enforcement officials. The incident, which took place in the Kips Bay neighborhood, involved Buscemi and an unidentified individual last week. In response to the assault, emergency medical services were called in and transported Buscemi to Bellevue hospital for treatment.
Although Buscemi is now reported to be in stable condition, he suffered bruising, swelling, and bleeding to his left eye, as stated in a police report. The suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion, wearing a dark baseball hat, a blue T-shirt, black pants, white sneakers, and carrying a bookbag. No arrests have been made thus far, and the investigation is still ongoing.
This incident marks the second assault on a "Boardwalk Empire" cast member in New York City within the past two months. In April, Buscemi's co-star Michael Stuhlbarg was randomly attacked near Central Park while out on a walk. Authorities arrested a 27-year-old man believed to be homeless in connection with that incident.
A representative for Steve Buscemi, in a statement shared with The Times, confirmed that the actor is on the road to recovery after becoming "another victim of a random act of violence in the city." The representative expressed gratitude for the outpouring of well wishes and highlighted the unfortunate trend of violence on New York streets.
As police intensify their search for Clifton Williams, the public is urged to provide any information that could aid in the investigation. Concerns over the safety of public figures and residents alike continue to grow as incidents of this nature persist in the city.
