### New Mexico Authorities Investigate Grim Discovery of Human Skulls

Authorities in New Mexico are currently investigating whether 20 human skulls discovered in Lea County could be connected to any missing persons cases within the state. The unsettling find came about thanks to a call from a concerned resident in Jan, a small city of about 2,000 people near the Texas border. On November 5, an individual reported having a distressing encounter with a man they had given a ride to, who allegedly disposed of what looked like human remains outside the vehicle and made several alarming statements.

Proceeding on this tip, deputies from the Lea County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) uncovered human bone fragments near the area specified by the caller. Subsequent investigations led them to a residence where the suspect, identified as Cecil Villanueva, was staying. Inside the house, deputies found additional bone pieces, including parts of a skull and jawbone.

A more in-depth search of the property unveiled the shocking discovery of 10 to 20 human skulls, which were promptly sent to the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque for detailed analysis and possible identification.

Authorities are particularly focused on uncovering whether the discovered remains have any connection to the disappearance of Angela McManes, a 43-year-old woman last seen on May 14, 2019. Her last known residence was in close proximity to the property currently under investigation. According to the LCSO, work is underway to determine if there are links between the remains and McManes or other potential victims.

DNA analysis could provide the critical evidence needed to confirm whether some of the remains belong to McManes or identify other victims. As of now, no formal charges have been filed in connection with the case. Anyone possessing information is urged to reach out to the Lea County Sheriff's Office or Lea County Crimestoppers.
