In a tragic incident just after graduating from high school, an 18-year-old woman was wounded in a shooting in Boston's Seaport area on Thursday. The Boston Police are currently searching for the unidentified gunman responsible for the attack.

The shooting took place shortly before noon in the vicinity of Pier 4 Boulevard and Northern Avenue. The victim, whose name has not been disclosed, was quickly rushed to the hospital with gunshot injuries that police have deemed non-life-threatening.

According to Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox, the young woman had graduated from Boston Collaborative High School earlier that morning. However, Cox clarified that the shooting did not occur at the graduation ceremony but at a different location, separate from the celebratory event.

"We believe this was not a random event," Commissioner Cox informed reporters. "We are still investigating this incident."

Authorities are currently seeking a male suspect but have not yet released a detailed description of him. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown.

Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden expressed his dismay at the tragic turn of events, stating, "To say this is an unfortunate incident would be an understatement. This is a tragedy; this should not happen."

Eyewitnesses told WBZ-TV that a graduation party was taking place in the vicinity when they observed a woman exiting a vehicle, clutching her stomach in obvious distress. Onlookers immediately rushed to provide assistance, and law enforcement officers were promptly dispatched to the scene.

Several witnesses reported seeing an individual in a cap and gown fleeing from the area, raising suspicions about a possible connection to the graduation festivities.

"This shooting taking place on a beautiful day like today, during a high school graduation, is truly distressing," lamented District Attorney Hayden.

As the investigation unfolds, no additional information has been made available. The Boston Police, along with relevant authorities, continue to work diligently to apprehend the perpetrator and shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
