11-Year-Old Boy Charged with First-Degree Murder of Former Louisiana Mayor and Daughter
An 11-year-old boy has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder after the fatal shootings of a former Louisiana mayor and his daughter in Minden, a small town in northwest Louisiana. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday morning when police responded to reports of a shooting inside a house on Austin Street.
Upon reaching the scene, authorities discovered 82-year-old Joe Cornelius Sr and 31-year-old Keisha Miles dead, both with multiple gunshot wounds. Two hidden handguns with empty magazines were also found, matching the shell casings found at the crime scene. Eye-witnesses reported hearing about eight gunshots during the incident.
During a press conference, Minden Police Chief Jared McIver revealed that the 11-year-old suspect is a relative of the victims. McIver stated that initially, the boy gave inconsistent information, but later allegedly confessed to the shootings. The boy's grandmother, who is also the mother of Keisha Miles, was present at the time of his alleged confession.
Chief McIver expressed his surprise at the lack of remorse shown by the young boy. He stated, "What I would say would be remorseful - sadness, sorrowful, apology, crying - none of those things happened." The motive behind the tragic incident remains unknown, as police are still investigating the case and trying to piece together the puzzle.
A neighbor shared a possible motive, mentioning an argument between Cornelius Sr and the boy over credit charges related to video games. The neighbor recalled hearing them yelling before the fatal incident occurred. The loss of Cornelius Sr, a former long-time Minden city councilman and appointed mayor, is deeply mourned by the community.
Minden Mayor Nick Cox expressed his condolences in a statement on Facebook, praising Cornelius Sr for his dedicated service to the town. He asked the community to keep Cornelius Sr's family in their thoughts and prayers during this challenging time. As the investigation continues, authorities strive to find answers and bring justice to this tragic incident that has shaken the community to its core.
