In a tragic incident that has struck home in Atlanta, a young woman from Dunwoody, named Sgt. Elisheva Rose Ida Lubin, was fatally stabbed in Jerusalem on Monday morning, November 6th. Lubin, aged 20, was a member of the Israel Border Police and had made Aliyah in 2021, living without her family as a lone soldier. The attack took place near the border with the Israeli Border Police, highlighting the ongoing violence in the region.
Lubin, the daughter of David and Robin Lubin, grew up in Dunwoody and had recently been designated as a lone soldier in March last year. She resided in Kibbutz Sa'ad, a religious kibbutz located in the Negev region of Israel. Lubin's tragic death has deeply affected the local community, with her aunt reportedly on her way to Israel to offer support.
The circumstances surrounding the attack are still under investigation. Israeli press reports indicate that Lubin was critically injured in a stabbing assault near the Herod's Gate entrance to Jerusalem's Old City. Tragically, she succumbed to her wounds shortly after. It has been confirmed that the assailant, a 16-year-old Palestinian, was shot dead by other Border Police officers. Another Israeli officer was moderately wounded in the attack.
Sgt. Elisheva Rose Ida Lubin was a well-respected member of the Israel Border Police and was even featured as a guest at the Friends of Israel Defense Forces annual gala held in May. In a heartfelt message during the gala, Lubin expressed her love for her work and encouraged others to visit her at Damascus Gate, where she would gladly welcome them.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing tensions in the region and the dangers faced by those involved in maintaining security. Lubin's untimely death has triggered an outpouring of sympathy and support from various organizations, including Camp Ramah Darom, where her aunt serves on the board.
The loss of Sgt. Elisheva Rose Ida Lubin has left a profound impact on her family, friends, and the community she called home. As the investigation continues, the hope remains that her tragic death will not be in vain and that steps will be taken to prevent such acts of violence in the future.
