Snow is forecasted for Friday morning in parts of Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia after a Winter Weather Advisory was issued on Thursday. According to FOX 5 meteorologist Tucker Barnes, the snow is expected to begin falling between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m., lasting for most of the morning and affecting the morning commute. The heaviest snowfall is anticipated between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m.
In the immediate D.C. metro area, residents can expect light snow accumulations ranging from one to three inches. However, the highest snowfall amounts are predicted in the mountains to the north and west, where Winter Storm Warnings will remain in effect until Saturday.
As the day progresses, the steady snowfall is expected to transition into showers by 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Although this is not considered a major snow event, the low temperatures in the region will cause all the precipitation to stick and accumulate on the ground.
Thursday's high temperatures are projected to reach around 38 degrees Fahrenheit, which may help melt some of the existing snow on the ground before the new snowfall arrives on Friday morning. However, temperatures are expected to drop significantly on Saturday, with frigid mid-20s forecasted. Sunday will be cold and sunny, with highs in the low-30s.
Residents are advised to exercise caution while commuting and be prepared for potentially slippery road conditions. Stay informed about any further weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure your safety during this snowy weather event.
