The 22News Storm Team has issued a Weather Alert for Western Massachusetts on Sunday into Monday, warning residents of heavy wet snow and a wintry mix, particularly in the hills and Berkshires. The National Weather Service has declared a Winter Storm Warning for northern Berkshire, western Hampshire, and western Franklin Counties from 6 a.m. Sunday until noon Monday. Additionally, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for southern Berkshire and western Hampden Counties during the same time frame.

According to meteorologists, Sunday will bring a mix of snow, rain, and wintry precipitation across the region. The hills and Berkshires are expected to receive more significant accumulations of snow and sleet, while lesser amounts are anticipated in the Connecticut Valley. Daytime temperatures on Sunday will remain in the low to mid-30s, providing favorable conditions for snow buildup.

The wintry conditions will persist through Sunday night, accompanied by temperatures in the lower 30s. However, the snow and wintry mix are projected to taper off by Monday morning. Highs on Monday are expected to reach the upper 30s, offering residents some relief from the winter weather.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to exercise caution while traveling during this period and to stay updated on the latest forecasts and advisories. The heavy wet snow and wintry mix can result in slippery road conditions, reduced visibility, and potential disruptions to travel plans.

Authorities recommend taking necessary precautions, such as allowing extra time for travel, driving at reduced speeds, and maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles. Additionally, residents should prepare for possible power outages by having essential supplies and alternative heating sources available.

As the Winter Storm Warning remains in effect, residents are encouraged to stay informed through local news sources, weather apps, and official updates from the relevant authorities. Stay safe and be prepared for potential impacts from the wintry weather until the warning expires on Monday afternoon.
