In a recent conversation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Vice President Kamala Harris made it clear that the Biden administration will not permit the forced relocation of Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank, the besiegement of Gaza, or the redrawing of Gaza's borders. The conversation, which took place on Saturday, highlighted the Vice President's commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and stabilizing the region.

Harris commended President Sisi for his role in brokering a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, noting that the deal resulted in an extended pause in the fighting and the release of over 100 hostages, including Americans. This breakthrough also enabled a substantial increase in the flow of humanitarian assistance into Gaza.

However, Harris blamed Hamas for ending the ceasefire by firing rockets into Israel earlier in the week. In response, Israeli military forces intensified airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, leading to the reported deaths of at least 200 people, according to local officials.

The United States remains committed to securing the release of the remaining hostages who were captured by Hamas during their attack on Israel on October 7th. As Israel expands its military operations and concerns mount over potential escalations with Iran-backed Hezbollah fighters on the Lebanese border, Harris expressed a desire to strategize on post-conflict stabilization in Gaza.

During her conversation with President Sisi, Harris emphasized the importance of a clear political horizon for the Palestinian people, aiming for the establishment of their own state led by a revitalized Palestinian Authority. She stressed that such efforts must receive significant support from the international community and regional countries to succeed.

In addition, Harris argued that Hamas, the governing authority in Gaza, must relinquish its power. She asserted that maintaining the status quo is untenable for Israel's security, the well-being of the Palestinian people, and regional stability.

As the situation continues to evolve in the Middle East, Vice President Harris appears determined to support the Palestinian cause while advocating for a peaceful resolution and a better future for all parties involved. The international community will be closely watching as efforts are made towards stabilizing Gaza and working towards a lasting solution.
