In a breakthrough development, law enforcement authorities have apprehended a suspect in the murder case of Claudia Voight, the mother of NBC Connecticut news anchor Heidi Voight. The Vermont State Police investigation led to the arrest of Shawn Conlon, 44, of Rhode Island, who was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Groton, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Claudia Voight, 73, was tragically killed in her Windham, Vermont, home on February 20. Initially, her death did not appear suspicious, but an autopsy later revealed that she had been strangled. The medical examiner's findings in April confirmed the cause of her death.

The Vermont State Police obtained an arrest warrant for Conlon on December 18, identifying him as a suspect in Voight's strangulation murder. Seeking assistance, they enlisted the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force to locate and apprehend him. The extensive investigation led authorities first to Rhode Island and eventually to a hotel on Gold Star Highway in Groton, where Conlon was found and taken into custody.

After his arrest, Conlon was transported to the Groton Police Department, where he underwent processing in preparation for his arraignment. He will be extradited back to Vermont to face the charge of second-degree homicide.

This arrest brings a significant breakthrough in the investigation, providing some closure for Heidi Voight and her family. The NBC Connecticut news anchor has expressed gratitude to the law enforcement agencies for their tireless efforts in bringing the suspect to justice.

Authorities have drawn commendation for their meticulous work in identifying the suspect and the subsequent collaboration between the Vermont State Police and the U.S. Marshals. The arrest of Shawn Conlon provides hope for justice to be served for Claudia Voight and her grieving loved ones.
