In response to the deadly drone attack on a US base in Jordan over the weekend, the Pentagon has announced that there will be consequences for the perpetrators. President Joe Biden, before departing for a fundraising trip to Florida, stated that he has decided on a US response to the attack.

National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby, speaking aboard Air Force One, revealed that the US response could involve multiple actions, indicating a tiered approach. Pentagon Press Secretary Major General Patrick Ryder, when asked about paramilitary group Kata'ib Hezbollah's message on social media, stated that actions speak louder than words and refrained from providing specific details about a potential future operation.

Maj Gen Ryder emphasized that three US service members were killed and over 40 were wounded in the attack. These soldiers were deployed in the region to contribute to regional security and the defeat of ISIS. He assured that there will be consequences for the attack.

While the US has not attributed the attack to any specific group, President Biden held Iran accountable, citing their role in supplying weapons to the perpetrators. However, he did not confirm if a direct link between Tehran and the attack has been established by US intelligence.

Regarding the drone attack, Maj Gen Ryder acknowledged that there are still many unanswered questions, including how the drone bypassed the facility's air defenses, its point of origin, and which specific Iranian proxy group is responsible. He reiterated that Iran-backed militias are responsible for the continued attacks on US forces, and the US will respond at a time and manner of its choosing.

In the aftermath of the drone attack, some Republicans have called for attacking targets within Iran's borders. However, the Biden administration is cautious to avoid escalating tensions into a broader regional conflict. President Biden emphasized that he does not seek a wider war in the Middle East.

The US promised a response to this deadly incident, which is believed to be part of a larger campaign orchestrated by Tehran to escalate tensions in the region. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby stated that leaders in Tehran have a responsibility for the attacks and continue to support militant groups targeting US positions and international shipping in the Red Sea.

The drone attack targeted a housing trailer on the remote US base, known as Tower 22, resulting in the deaths of three soldiers and injuring over 40 others, with eight requiring medical evacuation to Iraq. The Pentagon identified the soldiers as Sgt William Jerome Rivers, Specialist Kennedy Ladon Sanders, and Specialist Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, all Army reservists assigned to the 718th Engineer Company, 926th Engineer Battalion, 926th Engineer Brigade from Fort Moore, Georgia.

Iran has denied responsibility for the attack. However, Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh indicated that the attack bore the "footprints of Kata'ib Hezbollah," a group known to be supported by Iran. She stressed that Iran continues to arm and equip these groups, holding them accountable for the attack.

The US response to this drone attack remains to be seen, but it is clear that there will be repercussions for those responsible. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, with hopes that tensions in the region will not escalate further.
