In a joint statement issued on Saturday, the United States and South Korea sent a stern warning to North Korea, declaring that any nuclear attack against their nations or allies would be met with severe consequences. The statement was released following the second U.S.-Republic of Korea Nuclear Consultative Group (NCG) meeting, held in Washington on Friday.

The NCG meeting was convened to discuss nuclear deterrence and enhance communication and planning in the face of potential conflict with North Korea. The two countries have reaffirmed their commitment to sharing insights and strategies to counter any threats from North Korea.

The statement emphasized the United States' resolute stance by emphasizing that any nuclear attack by North Korea, officially known as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), against South Korea (ROK) would be met with a swift, overwhelming, and decisive response. This response would ensure the end of the regime led by Kim Jong Un.

The concerns about North Korea's nuclear capabilities have been growing as the country has developed and tested a range of ballistic missiles. These missiles have the potential to reach targets in South Korea, Japan, and even the U.S. mainland. Kim Tae-hyo, South Korea's deputy national security adviser, added to these concerns by suggesting that North Korea might test-launch an intercontinental ballistic missile that could carry a nuclear warhead.

The NCG meetings serve as a platform for both the United States and South Korea to address and strategize against the nuclear threats posed by North Korea. Following the successful second meeting in Washington, plans have been made for the next NCG to be held in South Korea next summer.

The joint statement from the United States and South Korea underscores the seriousness with which they view North Korea's nuclear activities. It further demonstrates their commitment to maintaining regional stability and protecting their nations and alliances from any potential threats. As tensions continue to rise, the international community will closely monitor any developments related to North Korea's nuclear ambitions.
