In a statement released on Friday, U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his growing concerns regarding the distribution of humanitarian aid inside Gaza, as Israel's offensive against Hamas creates significant obstacles. The statement came shortly after the U.N. Security Council passed a resolution calling for increased aid deliveries to the region.

Secretary-General Guterres emphasized the urgency of addressing the situation, highlighting that 136 U.N. aid workers in Gaza have lost their lives during the 75-day conflict, which he described as unprecedented in the history of the organization. He emphasized that an effective aid operation in Gaza requires security, safe working conditions for staff, logistical capacity, and the resumption of commercial activity.

The recently passed U.N. resolution urged all parties involved to create conditions for a sustainable cessation of hostilities, although it did not explicitly call for a ceasefire. The resolution received support from 13 members of the Security Council, with the United States and Russia choosing to abstain from voting.

European Council President Charles Michel welcomed the resolution, aligning it with international humanitarian law. In a statement, Michel emphasized the importance of addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the need for concerted efforts to enhance aid deliveries.

The situation in Gaza has been marked by intense negotiations in recent days, as various parties aim to find a solution to the ongoing conflict. The U.N. resolution underscores the international community's commitment to supporting the people of Gaza and promoting a lasting peace.

Efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and ensure the uninterrupted distribution of aid remain of paramount importance. The international community will be closely monitoring developments and working towards a resolution that brings relief to the people of Gaza while taking into account the complex dynamics of the region.
