In a recent development, the Jackson County Family Court Division confirmed that two unidentified juveniles have been charged with offenses related to gun possession and resisting arrest. The court also stated that additional charges may be filed as the investigation conducted by the Kansas City Police Department progresses.

According to the authorities, the shooting incident, which occurred near Union Station on the southwest side of Kansas City, was the result of a dispute and is not believed to be connected to terrorism. The police have deployed a widespread communication campaign, urging potential witnesses to come forward with any information. In addition, a dedicated tip line has been set up for individuals who were present in the area at the time of the incident, with the FBI requesting any photos or videos that could aid in their investigation.

Due to Missouri law, adults who are detained need to be charged within 24 hours or else they must be released. However, since the individuals involved in this case are juveniles, they were allowed to remain in detention until Thursday afternoon based on a court order. On Thursday, the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office announced that if and when the teenagers are certified to stand trial, they will be tried as adults, resulting in the case being transferred from the family court's jurisdiction to the prosecutor's office.

Jackson County Prosecutor, Jean Peters Baker, expressed gratitude for the collaboration and partnership with the juvenile officers involved in the case. The prosecutor's office is expected to attend future hearings regarding the charges brought against the two juveniles in Family Court, emphasizing their commitment to closely working with all authorities as the investigation progresses.

The incident took place in an area where thousands of people had gathered, as the Kansas City Chiefs celebrated their third Super Bowl victory in five seasons. Fans had been eagerly awaiting the parade and subsequent rally, which had taken place on a stage in front of Union Station. Police believe that the shooting occurred amidst the crowd of enthusiastic spectators.

As the investigation into this distressing incident continues, the Kansas City community braces for further updates from law enforcement authorities and remains hopeful that justice will be served.
