Authorities have released the identity of a 24-year-old man killed in a confrontation with Tuscaloosa police. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit has identified the deceased as Tristan Decedric Clark, a resident of Tuscaloosa.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, during daylight hours, near Bowers Park, located on James I Harrison Jr. Parkway. According to Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Jack Kennedy, the confrontation began when Tuscaloosa police narcotics officers conducted a traffic stop on 37th Street East in response to a traffic violation near the intersection of James I Harrison Parkway.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the officers discovered that one of the occupants in the back seat had outstanding warrants. As officers asked the individual to exit the vehicle, one of them noticed a firearm in the suspect's waistband. The suspect, identified as Clark, was ordered not to touch the weapon. However, he proceeded to reach for the gun, prompting the officer to engage in a physical altercation with him in an attempt to prevent him from accessing it.

Despite the officer's efforts, Clark managed to remove the pistol and then disregarded commands to drop the firearm. In response, one officer discharged his weapon, striking the suspect multiple times. Tragically, Clark was pronounced dead at the scene.

An ongoing investigation into the incident is being conducted, with the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney's Office set to review the findings. As per standard procedure for officer-involved shootings, the two officers involved have been placed on leave.

The circumstances surrounding the confrontation and the decisions made by both parties involved will be thoroughly examined during the investigation. The authorities are committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in order to provide clarity on this unfortunate incident.

As the investigation progresses, further details will be released to the public.
