In a shocking turn of events, the Tuohy family, known for their involvement in the inspiring story that inspired the hit film "The Blind Side," has accused former NFL star Michael Oher of attempting to extort millions of dollars from them. Court documents filed by the Tuohys in Shelby County Probate Court in Tennessee reveal text messages exchanged between the family and Oher, with allegations of theft and demands for substantial sums of money.
According to the court filings on December 4th, the Tuohys released text messages they claim to have received from Oher. One message allegedly referred to the couple as "thieves," while another message stated, "I was robbed of 50 million+, 10 million is my final offer." Oher reportedly set a deadline for resolution, threatening to reveal his grievances to the public if his demands were not met.
Oher then increased his monetary demands in a subsequent message, expressing his desire for 15 million after taxes, rather than the initial 10 million. The former NFL player asserts that the Tuohys exploited him and profited immensely from the retelling of his life story in "The Blind Side," a critically acclaimed film nominated for the Best Picture Oscar.
The Tuohy family, however, vehemently denies Oher's allegations. In November, they filed court documents claiming that any money received from the movie was distributed equally among family members, including Oher and their two biological children. They assert that Oher was paid a total of around $138,000 in ten separate payments.
This contentious dispute began to unfold in August when Oher alleged that the Tuohys had deceived him into signing what he believed to be adoption papers at the age of 18. Unfortunately, Oher now claims that the documents were, in fact, a conservatorship that gave the Tuohys control over his financial affairs.
In response to a request for comment from "Good Morning America," a representative for Oher provided a statement in which Oher expressed his faith in the court system and alluded to the ongoing legal process. The Tuohys' attorneys have not yet issued a response to similar requests for comment.
As this legal battle between the Tuohy family and Michael Oher intensifies, the question of financial exploitation and the true nature of their relationship comes under scrutiny. All eyes will now turn to the court system to determine the validity of these allegations and to bring a resolution to the conflict.
