TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The Tucson Police Department (TPD) is currently investigating a tragic accident that occurred on Saturday, November 11th, around 10:30 a.m. The incident took place on E. Golf Links Rd.
According to the Tucson Fire Department, the crash involved a single vehicle, specifically a 1990 Chrysler Lebaron. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Antonio Salvatore Cimino, tragically lost his life at the scene.
Based on the initial investigation conducted by TPD, it was determined that Cimino was traveling at an excessive speed in the eastbound direction of Golf Links Rd. As he attempted to change lanes in order to avoid colliding with another vehicle, he lost control of his car. Consequently, his vehicle veered towards the raised center median, ultimately crashing into a tree.
The TPD investigation highlights excessive speed and failure to adequately control the car's speed as the main contributing factors in the accident. Furthermore, it was noted that Cimino was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Detectives from the Tucson Police Department's Traffic Investigations Unit are currently reviewing the incident to gather further details.
The loss of young Cimino's life serves as a devastating reminder of the dangers of excessive speeding and the importance of wearing seatbelts while driving. The TPD urges all motorists to adhere to traffic rules and regulations, ensuring their own safety as well as the safety of others on the road.
