In a recent development, new details have emerged regarding the Trump campaign's frantic efforts to deliver fake elector certificates to then-Vice President Mike Pence before the January 6 insurrection. The scheme, which aimed to block President-elect Joe Biden from assuming office, faced a major setback when the phony certificates from critical battleground states, Michigan and Wisconsin, were stuck in the mail, just two days before the fateful event.

According to emails and recordings obtained by CNN, Trump campaign operatives embarked on a chaotic mission to transport copies of the fraudulent documents to Washington, D.C. The endeavor relied on a haphazard chain of couriers and the assistance of two Republicans in Congress, including Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and a Pennsylvania congressman.

The urgency of the situation was evident as the operatives contemplated chartering a jet to ensure the timely arrival of the files for the Electoral College certification on January 6, 2021. Pro-Trump attorney Kenneth Chesebro, a key cooperator in several state probes into the sham electors plot, revealed these additional details during his recent interviews with Michigan and Wisconsin investigators.

The emails corroborate Chesebro's statements, providing evidence that he engaged in discussions with the top Trump campaign lawyer, Matt Morgan, and another campaign official, Mike Roman, to arrange the delivery of the counterfeit elector certificates. Chesebro also disclosed how a Wisconsin GOP staffer flew the certificate from Milwaukee to Washington before handing it off to him.

These behind-the-scenes revelations shed light on the effort to hand-deliver the elector slates to Pence, a crucial part of special counsel Jack Smith's criminal indictment against former President Donald Trump. Notably, it appears that a top Trump campaign lawyer was involved in the 11th-hour discussions about delivering the fake certificates to Pence, potentially contradicting his testimony to the House select committee investigating January 6.

Chesebro's firsthand account provides a narrative that brings clarity to the tumultuous events leading up to the January 6 insurgency, which ultimately resulted in Trump's indictment on charges of conspiring to obstruct the certification proceeding. While Chesebro has pleaded guilty to a felony conspiracy charge in Georgia, it is unclear whether federal prosecutors will reach out to him in response to his attorneys' previous contact with Jack Smith's team.

Federal investigators have already interviewed numerous individuals involved in the transportation of the phony elector certificates, including Trump staffers responsible for flying the documents to Washington, as well as some of the fake electors who were aware of the planning. The Trump campaign, however, has not responded to requests for comment on the matter.

As the investigation into the fake electors plot continues to unfold, these latest revelations regarding the Trump campaign's frantic efforts to deliver the fraudulent certificates highlight the extent of the chaos and desperation surrounding the events leading up to the January 6 insurrection.
