The tragic incident occurred near the intersection of 5th Street and Val Vista Street in Sheridan.

Sergeant Krinkee, a dedicated member of the Sheridan Police Department, was rushed to the hospital following the shooting, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later that afternoon, according to Chief Travis Koltiska's announcement. Sergeant Krinkee had recently joined the department on October 11, 2017, as reported by the Sheridan WY Police and Fire Facebook page. Moreover, he had served in the Army prior to his law enforcement career, highlighting his commitment to public service.

The individual responsible for the shooting fled the scene but was later found barricaded inside a residence located in the area of 6th Street and N. Sheridan Avenue. In response, the Sheridan police, Sheridan County Sheriff's Office, and Wyoming Highway Patrol swiftly established a perimeter, ensuring the safety of local residents. Additional support was provided by the Gillette Police Department's tactical unit and crisis negotiators, who are currently engaged in a standoff with the suspect.

Chief Travis Koltiska expressed the department's shock and sorrow over the senseless act, thanking the community for their thoughts and prayers during this challenging time. He also urged respect for the privacy of Sergeant Krinkee's family as they cope with their loss.

Sheridan Mayor Richard Bridger also issued a statement, expressing the city's deep sadness at the tragic loss of Sergeant Krinkee. He recognized Sgt. Krinkee's selfless service to the community and emphasized the risks law enforcement officers face daily. Mayor Bridger extended condolences to the Krinkee family, loved ones, the Sheridan Police Department, and all first responders affected by the incident.
