A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in the Foothill Farms area of Sacramento County, where a 10-year-old boy tragically lost his life after being shot by another 10-year-old boy with a stolen gun, according to the sheriff's office.

The shooting took place on Saturday around 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot of an apartment complex located in the 4700 block of Greenholme Drive. Deputies swiftly responded to the scene and immediately administered CPR to the young victim, identified as Keith Frierson, affectionately known as "KJ" by his loved ones. Despite the efforts to save him, Keith was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office revealed on Sunday that their investigation indicated that the suspected shooter, also 10 years old, had ventured into his father's vehicle to retrieve cigarettes. Disturbingly, the boy discovered a gun and boasted about his father's possession of it. The details surrounding the motive behind the shooting remain unclear at this time.

Further investigation revealed that the accused shooter's father, 53-year-old Arkete Davis, was legally prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm. To the authorities' horror, they discovered a firearm in a nearby trashcan, which was determined to have been stolen back in 2017. The Sheriff's Office believes that Davis attempted to dispose of the weapon after his son shot the young victim.

The 10-year-old suspected shooter has been taken into custody and transported to the Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility, where he will face a murder charge for his role in this devastating incident. Meanwhile, Davis has been detained at the Sacramento County Main Jail. He has been booked on several firearm-related charges, child endangerment, as well as being an accessory after the fact. Davis is currently held on $500,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on January 3rd.

This heartbreaking event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible firearm ownership and the tragic consequences that can occur when firearms end up in the wrong hands. The loss of a young life has undoubtedly shaken the local community, leaving family, friends, and neighbors devastated by the loss of a bright and promising young boy. As the investigation continues, authorities will be working diligently to ensure justice is served, all the while mourning the irreplaceable loss of Keith Frierson, "KJ."
