Oakley, CA - A house party in Oakley turned into a scene of tragedy on Saturday night when a shooting occurred, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old and leaving three others wounded. The Oakley Police Department has launched an investigation into the incident and is actively seeking the suspect responsible for the shooting.
According to an update from Oakley Police Chief Paul Beard, officers responded to a report of a shooting on October 21 at 11:12 PM at a residence on the 400 block of Shannon Way. Upon arrival, they discovered five spent 9mm shell casings in front of the house. Four victims were found suffering from gunshot wounds, with one teenage victim tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The identities of the victims have not been released, but authorities have notified the next of kin of the deceased 16-year-old. The three other victims were transported to John Muir Walnut Creek for treatment of their non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect had fled the scene before the officers arrived and remains at large. Chief Beard stated that the Oakley police are actively working with numerous potential witnesses to identify and apprehend the suspect. Although the investigation is in its early stages, it appears that there was only one perpetrator involved.
Prior to the shooting, officers had been dispatched to the residence approximately thirty minutes earlier due to a noise complaint about the party. The female resident, an 18-year-old, was advised about the complaint, and officers offered assistance in shutting down the party, but she declined.
Witnesses at the scene reported that after the officers left, a group of 20-30 individuals tried to enter the residence but were unable to do so because the front door was locked. They entered the backyard through a side gate. Moments later, screams were heard from inside the house, followed by several people running out the front door. Shortly after, multiple gunshots were heard, in line with the evidence uncovered by the officers.
The Oakley Police Department emphasizes that this is an active investigation, and resources have been augmented to expedite progress. Chief Beard vowed to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to make an arrest and bring justice to the victims and their families.
Chief Beard also extended condolences to the grieving family and expressed his commitment to resolve the case swiftly. Anyone with information pertaining to the shooting is urged to contact the Oakley Police Department at 925-625-8060 and provide details relevant to the Shannon Way shooting.
The community is urged to come forward with any information that may assist in locating the suspect. No parent should have to endure the pain of losing a child, and the Oakley Police Department is determined to find the responsible individual and the weapon used in the crime.
As the investigation progresses, further updates will be provided.
