The incident took place on Tuesday near the intersection of 5th Street and Val Vista Street in Sheridan.

Sergeant Krinkee, a dedicated member of the Sheridan Police Department, was rushed to the hospital following the shooting but tragically succumbed to his injuries. He had joined the department on October 11, 2017, and was also an Army veteran, earning respect and admiration from his colleagues and the community.

The suspect responsible for Krinkee's death fled the scene, but authorities later determined that he had barricaded himself inside a residence in the area of 6th Street and N. Sheridan Avenue. As a result, law enforcement agencies, including the Sheridan Police, Sheridan County Sheriff's Office, and Wyoming Highway Patrol, promptly established a perimeter and evacuated nearby residents.

In an effort to resolve the standoff, the Gillette Police Department's tactical unit and crisis negotiators were deployed to the scene. As of late Tuesday evening, the situation remains active.

The entire Sheridan Police Department, and the wider community, has been left shocked and saddened by the senseless act that claimed the life of Sgt. Krinkee. Chief Travis Koltiska expressed gratitude for the support and condolences received, while also requesting that the privacy of Krinkee's family be respected during this difficult time.

Sheridan Mayor Richard Bridger also issued a statement, expressing deep sadness over the loss and acknowledging the risks faced by law enforcement officers daily. He extended his thoughts and prayers to Sgt. Krinkee's family, loved ones, and the entire Sheridan Police Department, as well as first responders involved in the incident.

The tragic death of Sergeant Nevada Krinkee serves as a somber reminder of the dangers faced by those who dedicate their lives to keeping our communities safe. The law enforcement community and the citizens of Wyoming join together in mourning the loss of an extraordinary individual who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.
