Toddler's Death Leads to Murder Charges for Mother in Bel Air

BEL AIR, Md. - A 3-year-old boy from Morganton, North Carolina, tragically lost his life on [Date], after suffering cardiac arrest in Bel Air, Maryland. The boy's mother, Gloria Hughes, a 37-year-old woman also from Morganton, has now been charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.

The incident occurred when an off-duty Harford County Sheriff's Deputy spotted Hughes standing in the street holding the lifeless child at approximately 5:30 a.m. The deputy immediately called for assistance, prompting a swift response from the Bel Air Police Department.

Medical professionals rushed to the scene and attempted to revive the young victim, later identified as Jason Garcia. However, despite their valiant efforts, Garcia could not be revived. Authorities swiftly transported him to the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at around 6 a.m.

Following a thorough investigation, the Bel Air Police Department charged Hughes with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. At this stage, Hughes is the sole suspect in the case, and authorities have assured the community that there is no ongoing threat.

Hughes is currently being held at the Harford County Detention Center while awaiting further legal proceedings. Police are diligently working to uncover the motive behind this tragic incident.
