Las Vegas police have reported that a toddler sustained injuries on Friday after accidentally shooting themselves with a gun that was dropped by a teen suspect fleeing from another incident. The incident took place near Kell Lane and North Nellis Boulevard.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the first incident occurred in the vicinity of Kell Lane and North Nellis Boulevard. As a result of this incident, one victim was located and subsequently transported to the UMC Trauma center for medical treatment.

The second incident unfolded on the 1500 block of North Nellis Boulevard, involving a juvenile. Police believe that the suspect from the initial incident dropped their firearm while attempting to escape, and it was picked up by the juvenile, who accidentally discharged the weapon, injuring themselves.

During a briefing held on Friday afternoon, law enforcement officials revealed that the teen suspect had engaged in a physical altercation with an adult on a public transportation bus. The teen then allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the adult before fleeing the scene.

While attempting to evade capture, the teen scaled a wall at a nearby daycare facility. It was during this escape that the suspect discarded the loaded firearm in the daycare playground. Shortly thereafter, a child at the daycare found the weapon, resulting in it discharging and striking the toddler.

The injured toddler, who is believed to be under the age of 5, was promptly transported to a local hospital and is currently in stable but critical condition, according to police reports.

In addition to the toddler, the adult victim who was shot on the bus is also said to be in stable condition, as per law enforcement authorities.

The teen suspect is expected to be booked into the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center, as confirmed by LVMPD Deputy Chief Reggie Rader.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the potential dangers associated with unsecured firearms and the need for responsible gun ownership. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department urges gun owners to ensure that their weapons are safely and securely stored, minimizing the risk of accidental discharge or unauthorized access.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into both incidents, aiming to establish a comprehensive understanding of the events that transpired and bring justice to those affected.
