In a tragic incident near the Boise Airport, three individuals lost their lives and nine others were injured when a building under construction collapsed. The Boise Fire Department announced the devastating news on Wednesday, revealing that five of the injured individuals were in critical condition.
The collapse occurred at a construction site adjacent to the Jackson Jet Center, where an airplane hangar was being built. The hangar was a project undertaken by the private charter flight service, Jackson Jet Center. Jeff Jackson, the CEO of the center, expressed his condolences and stated that their focus now is on providing support to their team and partners during this difficult time.
The cause of the collapse remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing. According to Aaron Hummel, Operations Chief of the Boise Fire Department, the incident involved a large-scale collapse of the building's framework. The collapse also impacted a crane that was in the center of the wreckage.
Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, and approximately 30 emergency vehicles, including fire engines, ladder trucks, and ambulances, were dispatched to assist in search and rescue efforts. Victims were transported to local hospitals for immediate medical attention.
Law enforcement agencies, including the Boise Police Department, are leading the investigation, with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) also present at the site. Wright Street, north of Airport Way, was closed as rescue operations were carried out, and it was expected to remain closed throughout the night.
Despite the tragic incident, Boise Airport operations have not been affected, according to Boise Fire officials.
As investigations continue and details emerge, the thoughts and prayers of the community go out to the families and loved ones affected by this devastating event.
