CHESHIRE, Mass. - A 17-year-old girl from Western Massachusetts has been arrested and charged with a DUI after allegedly crashing into the State Police-Cheshire Barracks in Cheshire.
According to authorities, the incident took place on Saturday, December 16, around 6:22 p.m. when the teenager was driving southbound in a 2000 Nissan Altima on Route 8 in Cheshire. In a moment of misjudgment, she veered off the road and collided with the east front corner of the State Police barracks, causing substantial damage to the building's brick exterior wall and the kitchen area.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene. Both the driver, a 17-year-old Pittsfield girl, and her 17-year-old female passenger were transported to Berkshire Medical Center for evaluation of minor injuries sustained in the crash.
Once cleared by medical professionals, the driver was returned to the Cheshire Barracks and subsequently charged with several offenses. She now faces charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and a marked lanes violation, as confirmed by the police.
Driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offense that poses significant dangers to not only the driver but also to others on the road. Authorities remind everyone to exercise caution and make responsible decisions, especially during the holiday season when incidents of impaired driving tend to increase.
The teenager is scheduled to appear in court on a later date to answer the charges pressed against her. Meanwhile, the State Police-Cheshire Barracks will be working on repairing the damage caused by the crash.
Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward and assist in their ongoing investigation.
This incident serves as a reminder for everyone to prioritize safety and to discourage the use of alcohol or drugs while operating a motor vehicle.
