In a recent security incident, the Las Cruces Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious package at the Adult Probation Office located on W. Picacho Avenue. The package, which was discovered on Monday morning, ultimately turned out to be an empty box, easing concerns.

Authorities swiftly took action, closing a section of Picacho Avenue, between 17th Street and Motel Blvd, as they awaited the arrival of the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad. The bomb squad was requested to assist in assessing the situation and determining the nature of the unknown item.

Sheriff Kim Stewart was informed of the situation by LCPD and promptly responded to the scene. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials have also been investigating a separate security incident at the Luna County Magistrate Court building in Deming.

As a result of the incident in Deming, the magistrate court has been closed for the day, and the district court in Deming has taken precautionary measures and will remain closed. Additionally, schools in Lordsburg are currently on lockdown, and the Hidalgo County courthouse has been evacuated.

Authorities are diligently working to ensure the safety and security of the affected areas while investigating both incidents. Updates on these situations will be provided as more information becomes available.
