Authorities in Rush County, Indiana, have made a grim discovery in the case of a missing 17-year-old girl. Suspected human remains, believed to be those of Valerie Tindall, were found buried in the yard of her next-door neighbor, leading to the arrest of 59-year-old Patrick Scott on murder charges.

Valerie Tindall went missing on June 7, and her disappearance had left the community in search of answers for over five months. Rush County Sheriff Allan Rice delivered the somber news on Wednesday, stating that while the medical examiner is yet to officially identify the remains, they are likely those of the missing teenager.

The breakthrough in the case came during a search of Scott's yard in Arlington, Indiana, located approximately 40 miles southeast of Indianapolis. Scott, who had been under suspicion as a "person of interest" in Valerie's disappearance, is now being referred to as "the suspect" and has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Speaking at a news conference, Sheriff Rice emphasized that although the discovery of the remains is a significant development, the case is far from over. "Justice will be sought," he vowed. Rice revealed that prior to the discovery, Scott had already been charged with falsifying information to the police, indicating mounting evidence against him over the course of the investigation.

Authorities have not disclosed the manner in which Valerie Tindall died, leaving the community with lingering questions. Her mother, Shena Sandefur, described Valerie's relationship with Scott as one of trust, as Valerie had worked for him. Sandefur also mentioned that Valerie regarded Scott's family as friends and often spent time with them.

"This is devastating, mind-blowing," Sandefur expressed following the news of Scott's arrest. She conveyed the pain of losing her daughter and the everlasting void left in their lives. "My daughter didn't deserve this, and we just want answers as to why," Sandefur pleaded.

As the investigation continues, the community awaits justice for Valerie Tindall and hopes for closure in this tragic case.
